- Implanted AgeYoung AdultHearing LossSince BirthImplantedLeftI was born profoundly deaf and raised to lipread and speak. I wore hearing aids my whole life until I got my implant in 2006. Now I’m a hybrid: I wear a digital HA and a CI. I have a Masters in Journalism from UC Berkeley and like to educate others about people with disabilities.
- Implanted AgeYoung AdultHearing LossSlowly ProgressiveImplantedBothThe day I realized that my hearing aids could no longer help me was the day I thought my life was over. My family and friends scrambled to try and learn sign language for my benefit, but the funny part here is: I don't know any sign language! After getting the CI, my life shot upwards to places I never dreamed of reaching without my hearing. Ever grateful to those who made it happen!
- Implanted AgeToddler or PreschoolerHearing LossSince BirthImplantedBothI am the proud father of Karunya who is a bilateral implantee. We came to know that she has severe-to-profound hearing loss in both ears when she was 15 months old. We decided to go for the first CI in 2014 for the right ear after observing poor response on using Behind-The-Ear hearing aids. She first got her harmony and carried on very well, showing good progress, hence our Audiologist suggested for a second Implant which was done in April 2016. We further upgraded it to Q90 for both years.
