- Implanted AgeMiddle-aged AdultHearing LossSince BirthImplantedLeftMy profound hearing loss was confirmed when I was about a year old, and I was fitted with hearing aids at 19 months old. It wasn't until I was 39 that I finally decided to take the leap and get a cochlear implant! Adjusting to the CI hasn't been an easy journey for me, but it continues to get better every day. :)
- Implanted AgeInfantYoung ToddlerHearing LossSince BirthImplantedBothI'm the mother of a 4.5yr old boy named Keysen, who at 18mo was diagnosed with auditory neuropathy bilaterally. At age 2 he received his first CI, then at 2.5yrs received the second CI. At the time of implant Keysen had zero spoke words and now has an ever growing vocabulary and speaks in sentences. He attends a specialized auditory-oral school with plans to mainstream beginning in first grade. Keysen also receives weekly auditory-verbal speech therapy which I feel is key in his success.
