About Me

I am an other side of 60 Amherst/Buffalo, NYer who enjoys running and collecting personal record certificates. Born hard of hearing and after wearing hearing aids all my life, I got my first CI on January 12, 2007 and then on January 15, 2008 I got the other ear implanted, making me fully bionic!

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
The ability to hear sound across the entire frequency spectrum, my reduced dependency on lip-reading and my ability to engage in conversations with greater confidence
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
Engage in conversations with others without asking them to repeat themselves. I can also hear more sounds including those that I was never able to with the hearing aid and I am also able to better determine where they are coming from.
My favorite sound is
The ticking of the clock next to my computer. It is so assuring to hear something and know what it is.
I chose AB because
The quality of their material is much more educational and research found they are always in the forefront in advancements of cochlear implants. And, they were also the only ones with rechargeable batteries. How I used to dread running to the drug store for a pack of 675s for my hearing aid!
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want to help others just as others helped me in my journey. I want to help educate others how wonderful it is to be a CI user. And for those who are contemplating the process, I want to be able to help them along the way, to answer any questions they or their family may have and, to address any concerns.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Answering any questions you may have about the process, the post-activation/therapeutic process and, to be able to support you during your journey.
