About Me

At 7 weeks old, my son Sawyer was diagnosed with Bilateral Profound Sensorineural Hearing Loss. Hearing aids failed to benefit him, and at 1 year of age, he became an Advanced Bionics Bilateral Cochlear Implant recipient. Navigating those first few years can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be lonely! My name is Jessica Cox. I'm a wife, mother, working professional, avid reader, and advocate for self-advocacy!

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
My child's ability to access and enjoy music with his family and friends!
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
My child can do all things except hear with his own two natural ears. He enjoys conversation, music, watching movies, and the magical sounds of all the animals!
My favorite sound is
Bathwater filling up in the tub!
I chose AB because
I believed in the steering design for access to a larger frequency of sound!
I am a BEA Mentor because
Navigating those early years with your child's hearing loss diagnosis can be extremely challenging and isolating. It is helpful to have friends who understand, who can share their journey, and be there for you through yours.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Helping to translate the medical jargon, give real advice on how to navigate the early intervention process, mentor on advocating for your child, being a listening ear, providing emotional support or just helping you to understand all the facts before making important decisions.
