About Me

My hearing loss was found in the 4th grade while in public school. By the time I was a Senior, I got my first hearing aid. My loss was slowly progressive and I had even given up on hearing aids for almost 5 years when I got my first cochlear implant in August of 1997. I went bilateral in November of 2008 and couldn't believe the difference. Today I spend a great deal of time mentoring and advocating for others with hearing loss in my community and participate in multiple volunteer activities.

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
My favorite thing about my implant is being able to listen to every kind of music. I love music and appreciate being able to hear all the different voices and instruments.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
With my Bionic Ears I can now use the telephone whether it is a land line, cordless phone or cell phone. I can carry on a conversation with someone sitting behind me or in a social setting where there is a lot of noise.
My favorite sound is
It is hard to pick just one! I love listening to classical music, the birds singing outside and all the planes in the sky.
I chose AB because
I choose AB because of the technology. I could see where it was going back in 1997 and wanted to be a part of this fantastic journey.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want to help others considering a cochlear implant on their journey to better hearing because there were no mentors back in 1997 and having someone who has been in your shoes makes this process so much easier.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
explaining what it is like for the entire process - evaluation through activation and following-up.
