About Me

I'm from Cambridgeshire, in the UK. I've had my Harmony CI for 11 years in September 2019. I was upgraded to the Naida Q90 in November 2016 and now use the Link HA. My CI has given me back my confidence in social situations again and opened up new career prospects. My journey to hearing again wasn't easy, but it's the best decision I ever made...

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
that it gives me the ability to do anything I want to do. It gives me confidence in new situations with new people.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
hear people without lip-reading when in quiet rooms, make telephone calls and hear when subtitles on the television are inaccurate or have missed a word.
My favorite sound is
my son's laughter. I have cherished being able to hear all the different sounds he makes as he grows up.
I chose AB because
the Harmony processor fitted perfectly behind my ear. I felt overwhelmed by the technology information but I had a gut instinct that AB were at the forefront of the market. I wasn't wrong!
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want to give people a supportive experience during their CI assessment process and 'hearing journey'. I didn't have the opportunity to ask anybody questions or to learn more about what the journey involved back in 2008. My activation was a very emotional and sometimes lonely process.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
answering any questions at all about my hearing background and my experience with an AB Cochlear Implant.
