About Me

I'm an early 50’s IT professional working for a global IT services company who was implanted with a CI in 2005. Having lived with hearing loss since I was 4 years old (when I contracted Meningitis) - which got progressively worse as I entered my adult years - I eventually decided to take the plunge with a CI and haven't looked back! All the things I had given up on such as using the telephone, listening to music and going to the cinema all came central parts of my life again and this has been coupled with a significant reduction in my stress levels. Family life has also improved as I have been able to hear all my three children since they were babies and participate 100% in their lives and don't feel excluded from anything they want to do.

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
My 'upgradability' and the in-build 'headroom' of the internal processor to adopt new technologies and software upgrades.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
- Use the telephone and fully take part in conference calls - Listen to music again and go to music festivals - Continue to progress my career without my hearing loss holding me back
My favorite sound is
My children talking and laughing with me
I chose AB because
I could see that the level of technological innovation from AB is (and was going to be) second to none and this has been proved right time and time again.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want to help people with a difficult decision making process - I had help from someone in another country long before the concept of 'mentoring' existed and it made the world of difference to me.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Sharing my experiences, my outcomes and how my journey has unfolded over the years.
