Mentor Information
My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
AB has really good technology and is constantly improving! Sky's the limit!! The Neptune not only has a toddler friendly off the ear option but its also waterproof!!
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
Aarav can do everything he would have done without hearing loss. He loves talking on the telephone, loves music and dancing. Goes to a mainstream school, with 30 other hearing peers, and even gets reprimanded for being extremely talkative!! Such joy!!
My favorite sound is
Aarav loves music. He has a favourite list of songs that he loves to dance to!!
I chose AB because
When we were choosing a CI, we looked at all the other CI companies and the devices that were available. We chose AB for a number of reasons. AB devices are cross-compatible with a single internal implant and we have already upgraded from a body worn processor to a water proof processor called the Neptune.
AB's waterproof off-the-ear Neptune suited our needs most aptly. It saved us from a lot of worry when Aarav wanted to play in the water because it saved his little ears from being bogged down by a behind-the-ear option. In the last few years, we have also experienced AB's customer support and have been very happy with the promptness with which they revert.
I am a BEA Mentor because
When we heard about Aarav's hearing loss, to gather information, we read innumerable websites, wikis and encyclopedias. What really helped the most was reading blogs written by parents who have been through the same situation. I also connected with a number of other BEA mentors. Their experiences gave us hope and reading about kids who have excelled in spite of hearing loss has been inspiring.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Being there for them. There are very few people here in India who came up to meet us and wished to share their experiences. This had to change. It was then that I decided to start writing about my own experiences and to share them with whoever needs support. We as a family knew how beneficial support is for a CI parent and we have personally met and helped a lot of families and advised them to go for a cochlear implant. Most families now want to meet Aarav and the little social butterfly loves to talk and has been an inspiration to new families. Aarav has also starred in a documentary, which has been broadcasted across India on multiple news channels.
