Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
Seeing Jack get the maximum use out of them in every setting, from home to school to social settings and being able to just be a normal little boy.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
Be sure that with his bilateral Neptunes Jack is able to fully participate in all the activities we enjoy as a family - sailing, swimming and sports - and doesn't miss out on anything. The Neptunes are fully compatible with a soundfield system (amplification in the classroom) so he doesn't miss a thing the teacher's say in school either.
My favorite sound is
Katie and Jack giggling together, Jack humming and singing to himself and being told how well Jack is doing in school!
I chose AB because
We wanted the most advanced technology for our son with the most 'headroom' to deal with future advances and technology upgrades. We also knew that the merger with Phonak (hearing aid manufacturer) would mean rapid new product development in hearing loss and AB would benefit from the Phonak know how and vice versa in terms of techology and platform upgrades.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I have benefited from meeting with other BEA mentors and having the direct support of AB and other's advice and want to be able to share my positive experiences with other parents of newly diagnosed babies with hearing loss
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Sharing our story from finding we had a profoundly deaf baby -and the journey from diagnosis, through the operation and rehabiliation to successul integration into a mainstream primary school
