About Me

I am a full time quality and improvement specialist who acquired deafness when I was 20 and have permanent tinnitus. I am passionate about my work and love helping others to solve problems. I had a classical training in music and lost the ability to enjoy music when I became deaf. I love exploring and listening to music with my very musical teenage daughter. I have been married for over 34 years and love being part of the hearing world and enjoying life!

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
My favourite thing about my implants is the versatitlity and flexibility they bring to my life. I don't have to think about my hearing, my implants work. Life sounds normal. AB have given me the gift of sound which is fantastic.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
Live my life to the full. Have fun with family and friends. Take part in discussions in quiet and noisy environments. Use the telephone, listen, enjoy and learn new music. Go regularly to the theatre, cinema and concerts. My AB cochlear implants allow me to contribute 100% at work. They have revolutionised my life and that of my family, friends and colleagues.
My favorite sound is
Being able to access and recognise music, the melody, harmony and rhythm. Music is very important to me and it is wonderful to have it back in my life.
I chose AB because
They offered something unique. Not just a cochlear implant for today, but the desire and drive to deliver improvements and new technology for tomorrow and in the future. They welcomed me to their community and fully support recipients of their devices with passion, commitment and care. I am not a customer to AB, I am part of their extended community and family and that feels incredibly special. I feel privileged to have these devices which have changed my life. AB are an amazing group of dedicated people who work tirelessly to make the lives of others better.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I have been incredibly lucky to have been given AB cochlear implants. Sharing my experiences is a privilege and I service I am only too delighted to provide. I am passionate about helping others who are on a journey back to sound. Each journey is unique and being a BEA Mentor provides an invaluable service to candidates and users. We have an amazing diverse community of mentors which grows each year. It enables us to answer questions and help others using a huge wealth of knowledge based on our unique experiences.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Sharing my experiences and knowledge particularly in the areas of: Work, changes in dynamic with family, children and colleagues, music appreciation, living with tinnitus, balance issues, day to day operating with CIs - establishing good routines, hints and tips and the benefits of being bi-lateral.
