About Me
I'm am the proud wearer of AB cochlear implants. After struggling through my earlier years with hearing aids, I was implanted in my left ear in 2001 and, in 2013, I was lucky to get my second implant in my right ear.

Mentor Information
My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
Hearing in stereo. I loved listening to music with just one ear implanted, but with two, I now can close my eyes and hear WHERE in the studio the actual instruments were - it's magical and I love sharing these types of experiences with others
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
Live an independent life. Quite quickly after implantation, I stopped lipreading as much as I used to. I can use the telephone, with pretty much anyone - I'm even able to understand the heaviest of accents. Ultimately, I love going to festivals and gigs and dancing - and singing along (badly!) - with others!
My favorite sound is
The clinking of good quality glasses - there's something about being able to hear the sound of the reverbation. It just proves how sensitive my sound processors are.
I chose AB because
At the time when I was doing my research, AB was doing lot's of Research in relation to music perception. Music was always important to my family and I and, in comparison, hearing speech is simple. If I could get better music perception, I'd be able to enjoy a wider range of sound. The rest is history - I'm glad I chose AB.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want people to enjoy the same life-changing technology I have been fortunate to receive not just one, but TWICE. Where would I be today, if I hadn't pushed for a solution to my hearing loss? I guess, for me, being a mentor is all about giving something back and helping others on the road to better hearing.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Sharing my story. Everyone's story is different, but there is that desire to hear, to feel more involved. I love hearing about what other people hope to hear when they get their cochlear implants and, by sharing my before and after experiences, they can feel less initimidated by the cochlear implant journey. I like to share my journey online, but I'm a bit of a chatterbox and I'm interesting in meeting other CI recipients in the 'real' world if the opportunity arises.
