About Me

Born profoundly deaf from German Measles (Rubella) and got my AB CI implant as a young adult, after years of some frustration with Hearing Aids at the time. I love my CI as I find it surpasses my Hearing aid in many respects. Other than this - I like travelling (abroad) and having some fun with friends.

Mentor Information

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
The ability to rotate through programs to the program - whether that be an all day program or ultrazoom etc. It's brilliant! nuf said.
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
The ability to hear sounds that I have not heard before - soft to the minutiae ones, it did take me by surprise and still does today. When an hearing adults explains what they're hearing and pre-CI, I felt really left out but not anymore and I can actually hear what they're describing i.e. bird sounds. And now with the advent of technology - the potiential is boundless, I mean look at wireless technology and the ability to go swimming with neptune or aquacase. The possibilities is endless and I am forever grateful for my CI.
My favorite sound is
Those sounds I have not heard before in detail! - shrieking Catherine wheel at bonfire/halloween time. The detail in the bonfire with the wood burning and crackling all the time.
I chose AB because
It's potential to go far with technology and it's still manages to amaze me with what they come out with down the line.
I am a BEA Mentor because
It is important to help others and guide them through the journey becoming a CI recipient regardless of the brand. It is daunting and having someone there to help, to ask for advice is important. Plus I enjoy seeing others take in amazement of their CI after implantation. It is important to ensure that one continues to retrain the brain to the new sounds as it doesn't always happen immediately. This process of hearing sounds is ongoing, it never explodes on the day, it gradually opens up like a beautiful flower bringing in smiles and amazement to new CI recipients.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
Offering an impartial ear (pardon the pun) and give support where needed, whether that is pre-CI days and Post CI-days with rehabilitation. I can help with the experience I have having undergone the same process many years back.
