About Me
About 20 years ago suddenly I lost all hearing in my left ear, and had some hearing loss in my right ear, along with sever tinnitus. I tried a hearing aid in my good ear but it was not right for me.
My world became smaller and smaller as I could not hear people talk if there was any background noise at all, like a restaurant. I stopped going to concerts and even stopped listening to music on road trips. I certainly could not go to parties or any social events. I could not stand common household sounds like a vacuum or dishwasher.
Then I was told I was eligible for a Cochlear Implant. A few years ago I had my surgery, and then activation and I use an Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implant in my left ear, synched with a Phonak hearing aid in my right ear (called bimodal).
It changed my life! Is my hearing 100% perfect? No, but it is close to that and I live my life fully like I did before my hearing loss. Entertaining, restaurants, pubs, social events, all sorts of concerts and lots of music, and conversation, travelling, bicycling. I even hear the birds calling again.

My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
I wear my AB Cochlear Implant which is synched with a Phonak Hearing aid in my other ear. Throughout the day I live life fully like I did before my sudden hearing loss, and, I hardly ever even notice I am wearing the AB device. Life changing indeed!
I chose AB because
I chose AB for two reasons.
The first is seamless and easy connectivity. I answer my phone by tapping my AB Cochlear Implant (CI). I listen to music and lots more through my CI and twinned hearing aid. I can listen to the TV setting my own volume while others have the volume set at what they want. AB even gave me a small microphone device (Rogers) that I can put on a table in a noisy restaurant and it picks up the voice only of whoever is speaking at the time.
Second, my research showed that AB is by far the most likely to be able to upgrade my device as new helpful functions become available – without surgery!
And, most important, after I got my AB device the service I have received is second to none – I have had hundreds of service providers of one sort or another through my life, and AB is the best. So, so helpful and supportive.
After activation AB set up one on one virtual sessions to help make sure I got the very most out of this device – answering every question. And every single person I have engaged with AB makes it clear their number one goal is to help me on my hearing journey. Thank you AB!!!
