My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
Swimming (it’s amazing that my water AB cochlear implants allow me to hear and communicate with others when I’m in the water)! I hated how I had to take my hearing aids off before going swimming because I wasn’t able to hear and communicate with anyone, but luckily my waterproof AB cochlear implants changed all of that struggles and now I really enjoy being in the water and having fun swimming! I love how I can connect my phone through Bluetooth with my processors without having to add any additional equipment in order to pair my processors to my CIs! It’s really cool that I can connect and stream on my phone directly to my processors! I really enjoy listening to music, talking on the phone, and watching videos! I also enjoy going out in noisy environments thanks to the program I have listed on my CIs that allow me to block out background noise around me!
With my AB cochlear implant, I can
hear on my phone when having a conversation with someone on the phone, I can also listen to music and best of all I love streaming music directly to my processors from my phone. I can also have conversations with people and understand them without having to read their lips!
My favorite sound is
my dogs chewing, my dogs snoring and snorting, my golf clubs hitting the golf ball, when I’m playing golf, the water splashing when I’m diving in the water, and people on the phone. Other favorite sounds are my basketball being dribbled and the sound of my basketball going into the basketball hoop.
I chose AB because
when I was in the process of getting a cochlear implant on my left ear, my surgeon wanted me to get AB because I still had a Phonak hearing on my right ear and my surgeon thought that the AB cochlear implant and my Phonak hearing aid would work really well together. I also learned about the waterproof CI that AB offer for swimming and going in the water! I was excited to learn about that because I love swimming and being active, but it was upsetting that I had to take off my hearing aid before going into the water and that caused the hearing barriers when I’m swimming.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I want to be able to give back and help potential cochlear implant candidates who are currently going through in what I went through. I want to help people who are in the process of getting a cochlear implant feel comfortable with the process and help them feel confident about proceeding with the whole process. It makes me feel good to help other patients who are going through the process that I also endured. I’m happy with any questions that people have about cochlear implant, the surgery, activation, how to use the implant, how to properly use the accessories that come with the implant.
I can help cochlear implant candidates by
I can help cochlear implant candidates by answering questions about cochlear implants, what to do if they encounter any issues with the device, refer them to other specialists if needed. I can also provide assistance with what the accessories are and how they operate and how to use them
