My favorite thing about my AB Cochlear implant is
I no longer feel isolated or detached from the activities that are going on around me. I now have the confidence to join in Even if I miss a few words it doesn't trouble me like it used to. And that's especially true in work or group settings. I no longer feel left out.
My favorite sound is
Laughter. (But also music.)
I chose AB because
I had encouragement from an implanted friend who had a good understanding of how CIs work and the significant advantages of AB's technology. There were no official mentors in 2008, or very much reliable information on line. But what I knew was that my friend heard very well with her ABs.
I am a BEA Mentor because
I know from first-hand experience the isolation and debilitating impact hearing loss creates—with family, friends, and in the workplace. I got my life back thanks to CIs so mentoring is one way I have of paying it forward for others.
